Recently, we’ve been doing some work on some new sites and I’d like to take a moment to share them with you if you don’t mind. We have started some web hosting mini-sites that go indepth on a specific niche market in the web hosting world.

This week a new site launched - Free Host Review - www.freehostreview.com - it’s a pretty good looking site that has some good stuff going for it. A lot of review sites we’ve found are all based on whoever pays the highest affiliate fee, but this one ranks them according to stars.
When a user submits a review about a free web hosting company - they choose how many stars they give the host - 1-5 with 1 being the low obviously. Then it tallies the votes and shows you the count and the average vote. Then you can also see the reviews that others have submitted on the actual review page.

We have a few sites that cover technology related fields so I’m always looking for new and interesting topics in web hosting, domains, servers, and many other fields. I decided to make a post today on some of the cool things I’ve found this week.

First - on Web Hosting Ratings - I noticed there are a bunch of cool web hosting comparisons for some the the most popular hosts on the web today. You see their ads everywhere, but how do they really stack up? Check out a few like the BlueHost comparisons and the iPower comparisons. These are really helpful if you’re looking for a new web host.

Second - on a blog on Free Hosting - I see they are doing some web hosting reviews on a few different popular hosts - like bluehost vs. ix web hosting and globat vs. bluehost. These are cool because the people writing the reviews have had accounts at each of the companies.

Third and Last - a couple featured sites just for fun that I noticed had some good content - they might not seem relevant to you, but it’s useful information for anyone that enjoys a good read on good info. So I decided to spotlight Behavior Disorders and a site with some cocaine statistics. These are very informative and I hope you have a chance to look them over.

Today, I was checking out some really cool websites and decided to do a featured websites post here once in a while.  If you’d like to have your site be on our featured sites list - shoot me an email or post a comment here with the site and we’ll try to review it and tell the world about it. This could be a good opportunity to get your website some extra traffic and then you might be able to make a few extra sales - or maybe other bloggers will decide to link to your site as well. Then your search engine rankings will improve and you’ll get more traffic…see how it works? Good! On to the reviews then.

First, we have an education article website and directory. It includes public schools and private schools.  The site also has a website directory, job directory, and many other cool tools like a newsletter, add a school function, and add a website.

Second, I spotted a new site on police equipment. This site is run by a police officer in California. He also has a pretty good police blog as well as a police store directory on another blog which he maintains almost daily with featured stores. It’s really a well written site that has a ton of information for those in law enforcement.

Third, we have linked to this site before - it’s about merchant accounts - we love the site because it has such great articles on so many topics about taking credit cards on your website. They also have a ton of reviews on the best providers as well as some comparisons - like paypay vs. propay and a full google checkout review as well as a full paypal review. If you’re running a small business then you should probably check out this site. It’s packed with good information for site owners who are looking for a payment gateway or integrated merchant account. If you’re running a retail shop- many of the services listed here will include some equipment at reasonable prices.

If you’re looking to accept credit cards on the internet - the first thing you’ll need to do is find an internet merchant account. This will usually cost a little bit each month and you’ll have to pay a fee each transaction - like 3% + .30 per trans.  Some will have a “gateway” fee - this is for a service like authorize.net which is the go between of your site and your merchant account.

So say you have a product that you’re eager to sell online. You have the stuff - you just need to go out and find a cheap web hosting provider. Be careful - not all web hosts are created equal. The type of host you want for your ecommerce website will depend on you budget - do you want a template based site or a custom website? Do you want a lot of email accounts, blog software, shopping cart software, etc. The shopping cart question could be the most important because if you’re looking to sell stuff and not invest the most money - this is the best option - hosts like Ipowerweb and HostMonster have free shopping cart setup on their platforms.

If you’re looking for the best web hosting service for the lowest price possible to accept low apr credit cards - then I would go with bluehost or hostmonster. These two hosts are probably the best around with the most features and prices that won’t make you cry…

Even before this you better have your domain name ready to go - you can get one for about 10 bucks from godaddy or you can get a free domain with some web hosts like bluehost and hostmonster. Either provides free privacy as well which will cost you a bunch at other places. They have great customer support and lots of web templates to get you started on your web building adventure.

We recommend the OS Commerce cart for the robust website or for simple sites - go with the paypal shopping cart system. It’s easy to implement and people are familiar with paypal because they were one of the original merchant accounts online.

The articles have all been rewritten and they include a bunch of great new topics. We also optimized the comparison pages so they are more unique and more valuable to our visitors.

Another site we have been working on is Real Cheap Domain Name Registration. This is our domain registrar that is a godaddy reseller through their wildwest domains arm of the company. This site used to do very well as it had a full glossary and article base for users. Recently, it’s not been doing so well in the search engines so we have reworked many aspects of the site as well. We’ll continue working on it and it’ll be the best domain related site on the web.

We are also looking into some free web hosting companies and trying to find the best software that is out there to guide users that are looking for free space. We have a site that educates users on free hosting, but we get a lot of reviews from people who are not satisfied with their host. We posted some new reviews on this site as well :

SiteGround, AwardSpace, 110MB, and Freehostia are all very well known free hosting companies. They have loads of customers so we thought we better review them to give other users the info on each.

Recently we were looking into Godaddy for domain names and registration services.

They include a ton of features like the forwarding, masking, email, parked pages, for sale pages, and tons of other features with a domain name. Then we started looking around and reading some of the reviews.

Some of our favorite godaddy reviews included indepth feature explanations about products and services they offer for additional fees.

But then some of the other godaddy review sites didn’t actually include much information or consumer reviews. We like the ones where there are godaddy customer reviews.

There are probably 500 sites that claim to have a godaddy reviews and they are basically all getting paid affiliate fees for saying good things. The only one you should probably trust is a site that has free web hosting reviews - which also allows for actual customer comments.  So take a look and see what you can find… it’s pretty interesting to see what actual people say about it. The only thing you have to remember is that the customers who post reviews are usually negative - so as a number of customers - the negative is a tiny fraction so don’t believe everything you read!

Everybody has their favorite hosting providers. I’ve certainly got my share of them - I’ve probably hosted with over 50 and maybe even 100 free host services before.

So I decided that it would be a good time to mention the best of the best now that I’ve got my sounding board to do it! Isn’t blogging great?

There are many review sites on the web - you should do your homework before you choose any web hosting plan or cheap domain name registration provider.

We have personally used each of these services and stand by the quality -which is more than most reviewers can say. People try to judge the company by the owners, the plan details, and their website experience. That is all fine, but it really comes down to this - can they provide the service they agreed to provide when the user signed up on the website? In these cases - each and every host measured up to the promise. We don’t review companies where we don’t have websites hosted presently or have hosted in the past.
